Although I have been visiting Northern Greece for several years, the truth is that I had not heard anything about the Byzantine Hammam in Agistro Serres. In fact, until a few years ago, I did not know of its existence, nor of the village of Agistro. The most northern village of the prefecture of Serres.
So, after many years of saying it and saying it again, we decided to make a one-day trip to the village of Agistro and visit the Byzantine hamams to spend a few moments of relaxation.
A few words about the Byzantine Hammam of Agistro Serres.
The history of the hammam goes back a long way. This Byzantine building has been there since 950 AD and is considered a great cultural monument.
Its springs are considered one of the best in Europe and their temperature reaches 40.5°C and in the summer months the temperature drops to 37°C.

This northernmost village of the prefecture of Serres is located after the fortress of Roupel and just before the Hellenic-Bulgarian border in Promachonas.
Right next to the hammams is the hotel of the same name where you can stay there and be right next to the hammams that are open 24 hours a day. Of course in the village there are several picturesque guesthouses that can accommodate you and many restaurants that will offer you an unforgettable Macedonian gastronomic experience.
