In general, there are so many gems in Peloponnese that you can’t fail to find a place to have a great time. Whether that’s a mountain destination or a seaside destination the one thing you can be sure of is that you’ll be happy with whatever you choose.
9 Places to see in Peloponnese: List
1 The enchanting Monemvasia
From our list of 6 destinations in Peloponnese, of course this beautiful place on the south-eastern side of Peloponnese cannot be left out. A diamond built on a huge rock in the sea joined by a single strip of land. A destination for all seasons that will not leave you indifferent.
An excellent choice for a beautiful break from our daily routine. You can get lost in the beautiful cobbled streets of this castle town and reach the top and admire a beautiful view spreading before your eyes.
2 The historic Nafplio
Another beautiful destination in Peloponnese is the well-known Nafplio. And here, of course, you can visit this city no matter what season you choose. A city that you can’t get enough of its beauty. Here you can stroll through its magical alleys, visit historical sites and museums and of course eat and drink in the beautiful shops that exist in the area.
The list of places of interest that Nafplio has to offer is long. Some of them are the War Museum, the Three Admirals Square, the Constitution Square, the harbor, the fortress at Palamidi and 857 steps you have to climb to get there (if you don’t choose to go by car) and of course to admire the Venetian Fortress of Bourtzi.
3 Methana
Although not part of Peloponnese, but of the Attica region, this peninsula is located northeast of Peloponnese and is also connected by a 300-metre-wide isthmus.
Methana turned out to be a pleasant surprise for us and for this (and not only) reason it is on our list of 6 destinations in Peloponnese that are worth visiting. They are known since ancient times for their hot springs and volcano that exists there. Although during the 70s and 80s it was one of the top destinations, today it seems to be less popular with abandonment making its appearance in several parts of Methana.

Of course, there are many things to see and do in this place, such as a walk along the large pedestrian walkway in the port of Methana, a visit to the island of Agioi Anargyroi and the thermal baths. Of course, in Methana you can go to any of the several beaches that they have and enjoy your swim and relax. Finally you can take a nice evening stroll along the main coastal road which is closed to cars in the afternoon so you can sit in a fish tavern without the hustle and bustle taking over your head.
4 Peloponnese and Lake Doxa
Leaving the previous coastal destinations in Peloponnese that we suggested, let’s get to know the artificial lake of Doxa. Located in Feneos, Corinthia, it is surrounded by fir and pine trees and the three highest mountains of Peloponnese, Ziria, Chelmos and Dourdouvana.
Recommended hotels:
- Excellent choice Olvios Hotel
- Economy Stis Elenas
- For cozy situations Efharis Filoxenon
The landscape that is created is so beautiful that it looks like some part of Central Europe. For this reason, and we would say that not without reason, it is also called Corinthian Switzerland. In our opinion they have rightly ranked it among the top 10 destinations to visit.
There you can take a walk on the lake until the chapel of Agios Fanourios, where right next to it you will see at the bottom of the lake the ruins of the old monastery of Agios Georgios. One more thing we suggest when you visit Lake Doxa, is to take your bicycles and take a very beautiful ride along the shores of the lake and along the river Feneos. Of course, several activities are organized in the area and from the many accommodations available in the area, for example horseback riding around the lake.
Finally, you can visit the Holy Monastery of St. George located on Mount Helmos and offers an incredibly beautiful view of the lake and the surrounding area. We would also recommend you to enter the monastery and tour this 17th century building that played an important role in the 1821 revolution.
5 Elafonisos
And from the lakes, we move to beautiful beaches with crystal clear blue waters and golden sand. An island of love. A paradise that embraces you in its magic and takes you on a journey. If you are looking for a small island to spend beautiful and peaceful moments, we recommend you to visit Elafonisos.

Swim in the deep blue waters of the most famous beach of the island and the Mediterranean, Simos. Of course, the island has other beaches that do not have much to envy from Simos, such as Megali beach, White beach and Panagia. If you now wish to “travel” way back in time, there is Pavlopetri.
An islet opposite Elafonisos, where in 1967 an ancient city was discovered at the bottom of the sea, one of a kind, as it has a specific plan with streets, buildings and a cemetery. Put on your mask and dive into one of the oldest settlements and walk along its prehistoric paths.
